Euclid.
(about 325-265 B. C.)
Euclid - ancient Greek mathematician, the author of one of first theoretical treatises in mathematics which have reached us - "The Elements", works in astronomy, optics, music and so on. The information about Euclid's biography we got, is too poor. Some people even consider, that Euclid wasn't a historical person, but the whole team of Alexandrian mathematicians. The only reliable thing is, that his scientific work proceeded in Alexandria and Egypt in the III century B. C.
In his main work "The Elements", which is the whole center of mathematical teaching during 2000 years, are systematized the knowledge of planimetry, stereometry and a number of questions of the number theory of that time. In spite of the fact, that many works of Euclid are lost, two treatises on music, which are ascribed to him, have perfectly survived.
